William Lloyd Wright (Bill), long time resident of Ajax, Ontario, died peacefully on May 7, 2023, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane, his step-children Sean, Candace (Rob), Sandy (Kevin), his brothers Ted and Richard, his children, Melissa (Ryan) and Norman and their mother Monika, his grandchildren, Leah and Ryland, and his step grandchildren Matthew and Karleen, Owen and Jill, Emma, Elianna, and Eviya.
Bill was born in Toronto on May 11, 1948, to Clara Newburg and William R. Wright. A talented sportsman, Bill excelled in hockey, baseball, golf, wrestling, track, diving, and gymnastics. He also loved to dance and sing; indeed, he had an almost encyclopedic knowledge of popular and R&R songs and artists. After graduating from Carleton University, in 1972, Bill became an extremely popular and caring teacher and coach, working at such schools as Frenchman’s Bay P.S., Bayview Heights P.S. in Pickering, and Beau Valley P.S. in Oshawa. Following his lengthy teaching career, Bill worked for several years for Durham Region Transit. Bill had a superb sense of humour; he lifted the spirits of everyone he met, especially his co-workers and his vast network of friends. Indeed, he continued to display this characteristic throughout his final years and months while residing at the Winbourne Park Long Term Care Home in Ajax, Ontario.
A memorial gathering will take place on a date yet to be determined.
