Ronald Mewhort Obituary

MEWHORT, Ronald Frederick
December 14th 1945 – February 22nd, 2021
Soul mate, best friend and supportive husband to his loving wife June for over fifty years. Proud Dad of Tracy Anne (Dave) and Michael (Rafaela). Doting Grandpa to Lily, Sophie, Claire, Melissa and Vivian. Admired big brother to Dave (Sue). Fun brother-in-law to Chris (Del) and Fay. Favourite uncle to Scott (Deb), Brock (predeceased), Dawn (Gerry), Chris, and Laura. Great uncle to Lucas, Caitlyn, Quinn, Carly and Kohl. Ron was educated as a chemist and worked in industry for many years. However, in his younger years, his favourite pastime was working his hobby farm. His face would light up whenever a calf was born to one of his cows who were treated more like pets than livestock. His other love was camping and canoeing, especially on Moon River. He shared this love of the outdoors with June and their friends and relatives for years before the children came along. There was even a two hundred kilometre canoe trip from Smooth Rock Falls to Moosonee. And then, when the babies were born and were old enough, he took them. Now, his adult children have wonderful memories of those camping trips with their Dad every summer. He continued camping up until a few years ago and introduced a friend to his favourite spot on the river. When grandchildren came along, he and June entertained them with “farm camp” every summer during which they learned about nature and discovered how much fun playing on a rope in the barn could be. In the last year of his life, he and June were forced off their beloved farm by a furnace oil leak that needed environmental remediation. That emotional injury contributed to an illness that was creeping up on him slowly at first and then, once diagnosed, swept him away very quickly. He will be sorely missed by family and friends. Cremation has occurred according to Ron's wishes. At a later date, when the farm is ready to reoccupy and Covid restrictions are lifted, there will be a celebration of life at his home. Watch here for an announcement. The family would like to thank the North Simcoe Community Care team and Doctors Marchuk and Reid, who took very special care of Ron during his final days. If you wish to make a donation in Ron's name, please give to the Cancer Research Society of Canada, the City of Kawartha Lakes Community Care Hospice Services, North Simcoe Community Care, or your favourite charity.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
