Roger was born October 19, 1949 and passed away at his home on December 29, 2025. As a youth he excelled at hockey and football. He spent many years working as an auto mechanic who had an uncanny knack for finding a way to solve pesky noises or wiring/air conditioning problems. He was always happy to share his knowledge with apprentice mechanics.
Roger was a quiet self proclaimed grumpy guy, set in his ways with a great sense of humour and a vault of knowledge. Roger knew so much about sports, music, history and geography. He truly was a walking encyclopedia. If you were lucky enough to call him a friend he would do anything for you and had a heart of gold.
Roger had a passion for travel and most often he was planning the next trip before the present one was completed. He was a master at finding the best routes with things to see and do all the while finding the best deals. Another favourite game was trying to beat the GPS arrival time.
He preferred a road trip which allowed for exploration of sites along the way to the final destination. Since 2005 with his "driver Yvonne" together they visited 9 of the 10 provinces and 46 of 50 states in the USA. He also loved his travel abroad to Holland and Belgium where he immersed himself in the culture and vast history from WW2.
After retiring in 2013, he spent his time between travel planning, yard duties, home repairs, tinkering in the garage and feeding the birds. He was always looking for ways to attract the birds all the while keeping the squirrels away. His persistence paid off as this year has been the best year yet for the cardinals with at least 6 males and 2 females plus so many other feathered friends arriving on a daily basis.
Rogers favourite music lyric was from the band Trooper. He was known to repeat this verse when things just didn't go quite as planned.
We're here for a good time,
Not a long time,
So have a good time,
The sun can't shine every day.
Hoping his final road trip was a smooth one and someday a long, long, long time from now we can once again travel together.
In keeping with Roger's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time.
In lieu of flowers or charitable donations to honour Roger he would have loved for you to take that money and go on a trip and explore new places.
