ROBERT (BOB) JOWETT: From Choir Boy to Drag Racer…
A man’s man, a car guy, a talented mechanic, founder of the Cambray Yacht Club, had a sense of humor of epic proportions, Bob, made his last sarcastic joke on Dec 2, 2024. Born July 22, 1948 in Toronto, Ontario, Bob passed sooner than expected at home at the age of 76. But his larger-than-life persona, trademark voice, and gift for story-telling, will not be forgotten. The way he died is just like he lived: he wrote his own rules, he fought authority and he paved his own way. And if you said he couldn’t do it, he would make sure he could. He had an energy that with even just one encounter with him, you would remember him for life.
Predeceased by more than a few of his beloved old muscle cars, and his doting parents Lillian and Harry Jowett; Survived by his ever loving and patient wife Sandi; His son, Kevin; His step-children, Jeff, Christine and Linda, his dog Jackie, and many cherished, great friends in and around Lindsay, Ontario.
Those of us who knew him, who loved him, who got angry with him, who had heated debates with him—we’ll miss that man. We’ll miss the friend, who was always quick with a funny line, who was always eager to go off on another car adventure, who fought with us and loved us in his own special way.
His style was clear-cut, confident and unambiguous. There were hundreds of inexplicably important car projects…. and he was always willing to try something new. There was always a “next great deal” that lit up his life. He was the owner/curator and builder of countless collectible vehicles from hot rods to muscle cars for over 60 years.
He would want all of us to remember him as he lived, in a Country Car Club jacket, a pair of ripped jeans, a Chevy t-shirt with grease on it, looking for a missing wrench, at a racetrack, a demolition derby, a car show, riding a motorcycle around the block on the back wheel.
Rest assured, he’s now cruising down the road, going for ice cream, in an old street rod. The Beach Boys provides the soundtrack - safe travels through your Endless Summer Bob.
No service by his request. He asked to be cremated, but well-wishers are encouraged to write a note of farewell on this Facebook Memorial page. Everyone who remembers Bob is asked to celebrate his life in their own way; Maybe sharing a fun memory or a funny, or "What an ass" story of their choosing; And sharing any old photos you have with him in them on this Facebook page.
