Robert Philip Mathers found everlasting peace with his family surrounding him on Friday August 25th. Rob was born on December 25, 1954, a Christmas Day baby. Rob had a great love for the outdoors and was an avid canoeist. As a woodworker he built his own canoe, two homes, a cottage in Haliburton, as well as hundreds of other cherished pieces he created for his family and friends. Rob was also a talented artist with experience painting landscapes, portraits, still-lifes and abstracts. Rob was most well known in his community as an amazing teacher. He taught at I.E. Weldon S.S. from 1984 until 2008 when he retired as head of the math department. He loved to travel and on several occasions did so by sailboat. Above all else, Rob was a family man and will be cherished by his beloved wife Melody, his daughters Leah (David), and Lindsay (Will), and by his five grandchildren, Rachel, Phillip, William, Heather and Austin. He will be lovingly remembered by his brothers Bill (Catherine), and Doug (Sandy), as well as his many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday September 2, 2023 from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Lakeland Funeral & Cremation Centre. To honour Rob’s memory donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Friends of Algonquin Park.
