Réal Theodore Descheneaux

Réal Theodore Descheneaux, age 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, March 2, 2025, surrounded by those he loved. A kind man with a beautiful heart, Réal was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was one of 11 children, born on November 9, 1939, in Québec, to the late Hermann and Béatrice Descheneaux.

Réal was a selfless man with an infectious spirit who devoted his life to his family, routinely traveling from Ontario to visit loved ones in Québec several times a year. A devout Catholic and active member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years, Réal generously donated his time and resources to those in need. 

He was blessed with two great loves. Réal cherished over 21 years with his late wife Gisèle, welcoming three children, Carmen, Mario, and late daughter Mélanie together, before Gisèle’s passing in 1988. Fate intervened once more when Réal was introduced to Kathleen and the pair fell in love and married in 1994. He was blessed with a second chance at love and the gift of two amazing stepchildren, Linda and Gary, whom he cherished and adored. Réal and Kathleen spent 31 blissful years together, treasuring time with their children and their spouses Troy and Kelly, grandchildren Alicia, Cayla, Matthew, and Meadow; and great grandchildren, Ezra, River, and Weston. 

Réal was a passionate sportsman who found great joy in playing hockey, broomball, baseball, and bowling. Never shying away from friendly competition, he often participated in club sports and tournaments. He had a lifelong passion for fishing, creating many memories with his son Mario. 

Hardworking and particularly driven, Réal had an incredible 37-year career at Crane Drummond, working through the ranks as a foreman up to a management position. Upon retirement, Réal loved spending time with Kathleen, playing cards, assembling puzzles, brushing up on his tennis, and most definitely cheering with family over a nice glass of wine. Kathleen and Réal routinely delighted in weekend trips to the Casino, often leaving luckier than when they walked in. Réal was blessed in many ways.

A private memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Parish on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, to celebrate the life of Réal Descheneaux.
