It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John early February 5, 2017 with his family by his side at Ross Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Willy for 62 years, and the loving father of Connie (Pete) Gonsalves and Mike Blom. He was the devoted and treasured Opa of Chris, Vanessa (Ted) and Mitch Gonsalves. In keeping with John's wishes there will be no funeral service. Thank you to Gail and Derwyn Welch who were so much more than friends to John over the years. The family would also like to extend their thanks and gratitude to all of the nurses on the Surgical and Palliative floors at the RMH. They cared for John as if he was part of their family, doing everything in their power to ensure a comfortable and peaceful stay. A very special thank-you to Dr. Sara Lynn Francis at the RMH for her outstanding care and compassion during John's stay. She went above and beyond the call of duty for John and his family. John was known in the community as a caring and helpful individual that would stop to strike up a conversation with everyone who would listen. He would lend a helpful hand to anyone in need. The things most important in John's life were his family and friends and in his later life John enjoyed his weekly coffee meetings, trips to Sobeys and watching the boats under his tree at the Locks.
