Mary "Maisie" Joss Taylor (Christie) McGee

Obituary

After a long and happy life, Mary McGee passed away peacefully, with family by her side at Sunrise Senior Living – Oakville, Ontario on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at the age of 93.

Mary was born in Cruden Bay, Aberdeenshire, Scotland where she met her beloved husband of 55 years, the late Denis McGee, and in 1954 immigrated to Canada to begin a new life together.

She was also predeceased by her parents George & Elsie (Smith) Christie, her brothers George, John, William, Bruce & Gordon and her sister Isoble.

Loving mother of Katherine (Dennis) and Denis (Mary), Cherished Grandma of Craig (Danielle), Sean (Sara), Taylor (Camille) and Heather (Jason) and Proud Great Grandma of Simon, Francis, Isaac, Olivia, Sophie and Callum. Dearly loved by her family, she will also be fondly remembered by her extended family and friends.

Mary was seldom idle; she loved her garden, enjoyed reading, music and dance – especially Scottish Country Dancing. She was an excellent cook and baker and an expert knitter. She loved entertaining and spent many years cottaging in the Highlands of Hastings and the Kawarthas. Whether at home or the cottage, a warm welcome was always waiting with a pot of tea and freshly baked zucchini bread ready to share with family and friends.

In retirement, she fulfilled a lifelong dream to play the organ and was an avid golfer. She also gave back to the community through volunteering for 10 years at both Frost Manor and the Alzheimer Support Group in Lindsay, Ontario.

Heartfelt gratitude to the entire amazing staff at Sunrise – Oakville, where, despite the challenges of the past few years, Mary received exceptional, loving care since 2019. Special thanks to Dr. Hamboyan, Whitnie, Danielle, 3rd Floor PSWs and especially nurses Sarab, Sarah and Kristy and Care Manager Anna, who were devoted to Mary during her Palliative Care.

Cremation has taken place at Glen Oaks, Oakville.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday April 22, 2023 at 1:00 pm. at Lakeland Funeral & Cremation Centre, 19 Moose Road, Lindsay, Ontario.

Donations, in Mary’s memory, to Alzheimer Society of Ontario or Parkinson Canada would be greatly appreciated.
