Karl Payne Obituary

Karl Samuel Payne

It is with sorrow that we announce the loss of Karl Samuel Payne, surrounded by his family, his dog Cooper, listening to his favourite music, he left peacefully, Sunday, March 24th, 2024.

Karl was born in the highlands of Inverness Scotland on October 1, 1944 to Margaret (Peggy) Macpherson and Percy Payne. Percy had been stationed there with the Newfoundland Forestry Unit. Young Karl and sister Rosie moved with mom and dad to Newfoundland at the conclusion of WWII. Karl grew up in Cow Head, close to Gros Morne National Park. Karl left Cow Head and spent a few years in St. John’s where he won the rowing race in the Royal Regatta with his team. Karl moved to Toronto, Ontario and it was there he met his wife Janet Rogers and built a life for his family.

He was a gifted athlete, talented golfer and successful entrepreneur. He enjoyed family life at the cottage, fishing and playing guitar and singing by the campfire. He could light up any room he walked into and kept his sense of humour to the very end.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Janet (nee Rogers), son Scott (Monique) and daughter Sonia (Chris), always proud of his three grandchildren Austin, Aidan and Emily. Beloved brother to Rosie (Rendall, predeceased), Ginny (Aladdin, predeceased), Dorothy (Chip) and Angela (predeceased). Karl is fondly remembered by countless family members, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the amazing medical staff at the Ross Memorial Hospital for the compassion and care that was given. We would also like to thank Karl’s niece, Kelly Shears, for travelling to be with Karl and helping the family through a difficult time. The family will be having a private celebration of life.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
