Joan Margaret Philip

Joan Margaret Philip passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, at the age of 98.
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on October 7, 1927, Joan lived a long and eventful life marked by independence, resilience, curiosity, and determination. In 1966, she immigrated to Canada with her husband, Alexander Philip, and their two sons, beginning a new chapter and building a life in Ontario. In later years, she settled in Lindsay, where she became well known to neighbours, caregivers, and many in the community.
Joan was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Philip. She is survived by her sons, Derek Philip (Sharon) and Colin Philip (Fiona); her grandchildren, Paul Philips (Judy), Angie Philip (Rico), Neil Philip (Meaghan), Gavin Philip (Naomi), and Jillian Philip (Kurt); and her great-grandson, Jaxon, son of Neil and Meaghan.
Joan had a lifelong love of dance, singing, and music, and greatly enjoyed gardening. She also had a special love for dogs, which brought her much happiness throughout her life. One of her most defining qualities was her endless curiosity about the world around her. She remained interested in people, ideas, technology, and new experiences well into her later years, which contributed greatly to her strong spirit and sharp mind.
She will be remembered for her wit, independence, lively personality, and ability to engage with people from all walks of life. Joan is fondly remembered by the many caregivers and neighbours who came to know her over the years and who shared in her daily life and conversations.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to those who supported and cared for Joan throughout her later years with dedication and compassion.
A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held at Lakeland Funeral & Cremation Centre (19 Moose Rd, Lindsay) on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
She will be remembered by all who knew her.
