Herbert Victor Dodds

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Herbert Victor Dodds on Friday, September 15th, 2023, at the age of 86. Herb was a husband, brother, father, stepdad, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and a cherished friend to many. He resided in Lindsay, Ontario, and was formerly a proud resident of Acton, Ontario.

Herb's life was a testament to his commitment to community service. He dedicated 41 years to the Acton Volunteer Fire Department. He lent his voice to the Acton Legion Choraliers, proudly performing at Expo '67. Herb was a lifetime member of the Acton Minor Hockey Association and a member of Knox Presbyterian Church for 68 years.  Herb was a Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary International and the Centennial President of Acton Rotary Club.

Herb enjoyed 17 summers with friends on Balsam Lake. He was an avid fisherman, but in his own words, “not always a catcher”.  When travelling, without fail, Herb could be found spinning yarns with new-found fisherman friends.

Herb was a loving partner in life. He was married to Anne Fairfull for 36 years and, for the past 22 years, to Elinor Wagner.

In accordance with Herb's wishes, he will be cremated without a formal service. Instead, you are encouraged to remember Herb in your own way. You may choose to listen to some Duke Ellington music, one of his favourites, and raise a glass in tribute to Herb.
