George Malcolm MacNair passed away in Lindsay, Ontario on Tuesday, August 20th, 2013. Born on June 23rd, 1924 in Bathurst, NB, he was the son of Howard George and Mary (Beattie) MacNair. George enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1942, where he served as a gunner in the Battle of the Atlantic during the Second World War. He was stationed on the HMCS Strathadam and on the HMCS Prince Rupert, during which time he received a Mention in Dispatch. George married Jeannine (Jean) Rose Marie Deschene in 1951 in Sudbury, Ontario. George worked most of his life as a skilled carpenter, but most enjoyed spending time with his family in the great outdoors. In 1989, George and Jean retired to Head Lake, where he spent the summers renovating cottages and the winters grooming trails for the Haliburton County Snowmobile Club. Predeceased by his infant son Jeffrey and brother Douglas. George is survived by his wife Jean, sister Florence Knowles, brother Don MacNair, children Sandy Lansing (Jack), Brenda, Barbara, Howie (Tara), Jim (Jane), Douglas (Jackie), and grandchildren Melissa and Jeffrey Lansing, Ryan, Craig, Tyler, Colin, Tessa, Kenny, Seamus and Heather MacNair. The family will receive friends at Parker Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 19 Moose Road, Lindsay on Sunday, August 25th from 2:00 pm until time of memorial service in the chapel at 3:00 pm.
