Gary Clare Winter

Passed away peacefully at Ross Memorial Hospital on September 15, 2024. Gary was born in Toronto, Ontario on February 9, 1940 to his Late parents Cecil Winter, Marion Winter (nee Andrew & his bonus mother Anne Winter (nee Morrison). Gary was the devoted & loving husband of Nancy Winter (nee Thomas) for 63 years. Proud father of Leanne Carpenter (Jeff) & Phil Winter. Cherished grandfather of Jennifer Andersen (Devin) & Chad Carpenter. Great grandfather to Nash Andersen & Scarlett Andersen. 

Gary was a dedicated Police Sergeant for 33 years. His career started with the Town of Whitby police department, moving to the Durham Regional Police Service where he retired. He was very proud of his accomplishments during his time serving the community. He shared fond memories with his coworkers and partners through the years and spoke about them frequently after retirement. 

The family would like to extend a warm thank you to the staff at Ross Memorial Hospital for the care they provided in Gary’s final days. 

As per Gary’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family Celebration of Life held at a later date.
