It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Fran, who passed away peacefully at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay on March 28, 2024 at the age of 94. She was the loving mother of Marlene McGriskin and Jill Cartier-Hill (John). Devoted grandmother of Chantelle Hill and Dustin Hill (Chelsea). She now joins in Heaven her parents Edouard Cartier and Clara Cartier (née Serré). Predeceased by her siblings: Léonard Cartier (Aline), Osiana (Fred) Danis, Claire (Rudolph) Morin, Ubal Cartier, Domina Cartier (Cecile), Ernest Cartier (Eglantine), Roger Cartier (Evelyn), Fernand Cartier (Lorraine), Germaine (John) Poulton. Fran leaves behind many nieces and nephews from her large extended family.
Our Mom was born in Sturgeon Falls, a small town in northern Ontario, and was the youngest of a large family. Mom was a proud woman. She was a very cute and sweet little French lady yet had her feisty moments! Like her mother, our mom was very talented – wonderful at cooking and baking (aaaah.... the homemade bread, the Chelsea buns, the butter tarts... tourtiere, Christmas cake... and on and on!), and also sewing, knitting, crocheting and embroidery.
Mom loved to dance! She was a natural and always ready to join in on the dance floor. She, like all her siblings, also loved old-fashioned fiddle music.
Mom, being a forthright and moral person, of deep Catholic faith, selflessly helped many. Even through life’s challenges, Mom ensured we always had what we needed. We love you Mom and miss you and will keep you in our hearts and thoughts forever. Until we meet again....
We would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Adelaide Place Retirement Living as well as the Ross Memorial Hospital for their continuing care.
As per Fran’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family mass held.
Donations in memory of Fran can be directed to The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario.
