We are greatly saddened to announce the passing of Douglas (Doug) Ernest Horton, at the age of 98, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay, Ontario. Doug was born on August 5, 1926 in Hamilton, Ontario to Leslie (Les) and Elizabeth Horton. Doug is predeceased (2003) by his loving wife Marion (Child). Doug is survived by his children Ron (Marney), Keith (Jenny– 2023) and Beth. He had a third son, Craig (Mary Lou) who passed in 1996. He has three grandchildren, Andrea (Paul), Becky (Dean) and Matthew (Kerry); four great grandchildren Grace, Jacob, Avery, and Quinn. His siblings are Barb Rodger (Bill – 1992), Wayne (Pearl) and sister-in-law Lois Donovan (Jim – 2010). Doug joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1944. When the war in Europe was winding down, he was transferred to the Army for the last few months of the war. Doug spent many years in the newspaper industry which included the Toronto Telegram and The Globe and Mail. Doug is a long-time retiree of The Globe and Mail and ended his tenure there as Traffic Manager (Circulation). Doug enjoyed spending time on the water with a fishing rod in hand, playing euchre and his Florida trips with Mom. He now has the opportunity after waiting 21 years with a broken heart, to spend all of eternity with his true love and bride of 56 years, Marion.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Lakeland Funeral Centre, 19 Moose Rd., Lindsay, Ont. At 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sick Kids or the Ross Memorial Hospital.
