Catherine Austin

On Sunday, September 14, 2025, Catherine (Cath) Austin (nee Whitfield) passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She is remembered by her adoring husband John Appleby Austin, son Glenn Russell Steel (Laura Pineau), and daughter Sherrill Adele (Justin Chevrier). She was a loving grandmother to Nathalie, Michael, Nathan, and Daniel, and aunt to Lynn Jones, and Christine, Dean, Nichola, and Russell Ingledew. She was preceded in death by her sister Jean and brother-in-law Frank. Cath immigrated from England in 1968 with John when their friend Betty sent them 8mm films and magazines about Canada, and settled in Scarborough to raise a family. In 1996, the family moved to Kirkfield to enjoy life in the country where they have remained since. The nurses in the Palliative wing of Ross Memorial showed exemplary care for Cath over the last six weeks, and the family is grateful to everyone who visited and sent words of support and encouragement while Cath was in hospital. Cath will be missed deeply by those who knew her and will be remembered for her artistry and her feisty spirit.

Donations in Cath’s name can be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Ross Memorial Hospital. The family respectfully declines flowers.
