On November 4, 2025, the world unexpectedly lost one of its brightest lights. Andrew Paterson McBride (Andy) will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Carole; his devoted daughter, Brittany (Craig); and his treasured granddaughter, Sloane, who brought him endless joy and laughter. He will be remembered with love by his siblings, Pearl (late Robert), John (Lori), and Robert; his sister-in-law Dianne (Bryan); his brother-in-law Ron (Ruth); and his mother-in-law, Jean. He was predeceased by his parents, Agnes (née Waddell) and Robert McBride, and will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who held him dear.
Born in Scotland, Andy carried his heritage proudly throughout his life — a true Scotsman at heart with a love for storytelling, animals, sports (his beloved Leafs), and the great outdoors. He was also a proud GM member, having spent many years with General Motors before retiring, he loved his time there and the friends made along the way. He had a big laugh, an even bigger heart, and a seemingly endless bank of stories and tales to draw from. “Andy stories” were always full of humor, adventure, and just enough embellishment to keep you hooked — along with a life lesson or two. Known to some as “The Legend of Scugog” — even inspiring a homemade mixed CD set named after him — Andy’s love of and appreciation for the outdoors was unmatched. His happiest times were spent fishing, birding with the dogs, and hunting with friends. He often said that a day with “no birds” was never wasted — because he was lucky enough to wake up with the forest and watch it come to life.
More than anything, he loved with his whole heart — and is loved just as much. We find comfort knowing his spirit is still with us in the stories, the lakes and woods, the eagles! — and the memories we all share together.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Andy’s honor at the Guild Inn Estate in Scarborough, ON — a place that was special to him growing up, and where he honed his ever-famous napkin-folding skills. We promise to keep practicing. Details of his celebration to follow soon.
We are forever grateful for the kind messages, calls, and gestures over the past week — they have meant the world and more.
“The voice of Nature loudly cries,
and many a message from the skies,
that something in us never dies.”
— Robert Burns
