Crossing, Lawrence Berkley
Passed away on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21st, 2009 surrounded by family at Ross Memorial Hospital in his 86th year. Lawrence, dearly loved by family and friends, leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Joan, four children, Chris (Jo-Anne), Jeff (Heather), Scott (Jenise), Laura (Gary) and eleven grandchildren. Lawrence enjoyed a long and active retirement after a rewarding 30 year career at Ontario Hydro. He retired September 1st, 1986 as Manager of Construction at Darlington Nuclear Generating Station. His career at Hydro began in 1957 as a construction engineer at Whitedog Falls. He also worked at Otter Rapids and Douglas Point. At 18 years old Lawrence joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. Directly after the war he enrolled at the University of Toronto and graduated four years later as a Civil Engineer. Lawrence and Joan lived the past 12 years in Fenelon Falls. Here Lawrence was an active member and former president of the Kawartha Field Naturalists where he pursued his lifelong passion for birding and nature. He was also a member of the Caygeon Carvers in Bobcaygeon where his wood carving skilled flourished. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27th, 2009 at 11:00 am at St. James Anglican Church in Fenelon Falls. In memoriam donations to the Ross Memorial Hospital, where Lawrence had the best of care, would be appreciated by the family and can be arranged by Parker Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 19 Moose Road, PO Box 236, Lindsay, K9V 4S1. 705-324-1988.
