I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to Gus's family. There's such a sense of helplessness when someone we love dies. I'd like to share some scriptural thoughts that really helps me. Prayer is so valuable at this time, but it's not that prayer simply makes us feel better. 2 Cor. 4:7 says that God can give us, "... power beyond what is normal ", to go from one day to the next. This does not mean that we no longer cry or that we forget, but it means we recover. The reason we recover is because of our hope. Jesus Christ talked about our hope in John 5:28, "... all those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out ". Jesus was referring to the resurrection; this is our hope that helps us recover and gives us power to go on.
2 Cor. 1:3 describes our Creator as, "... the God of all comfort ". One way that God comforts us is by moving people who care about us to give us words of encouragement that we need to hear. May the God of comfort (Ps. 83:18) be your comfort now during this time of sorrow.

My condolences to you, Mayah, and all of Gus' Family.
I didn't know him that long, but enjoyed his humour, wit and upbeat character. My memories with Gus were riding on motorcycles, but even more, playing music with him in a little band we had for a while. He will be missed.

Our deepest sympathy to you Mayah and the Sevink family. We have lost a great neighbour and friend. We always loved to chat with Gus, listen to his musical talents and his teasing and ribbing of Gavin and Graham. We were blessed with Gus' encouragement and inspiration leading to Gavin's love of music and the piano. Rest in peace Gus, you will be missed.

Mayah: I remember Gus from those years you and I worked together at Case Co-ordination and the two of you were working so hard on building your Burketon home. Although our paths took us in different directions I have often thought of you and was very saddened to hear of Gus' passing. I know you two have shared a very special 43 years of companionship and memories of such will provide an everlasting bond. Take care of yourself going forward Mayah and hold tight to family and friends.

Gus fought a courageous battle and never once did we hear him complain or give up. His talks in our Harley meetings were usually quite interesting even when he was getting a lot of ribbing from his fellow members, this causing even more entertainment.
Sorry for your loss Sevink family, our hearts go out to you all.
We will all miss our buddy Gus!

Gus we know that your years of suffering are over now, but it does not take away the sting at the loss of your laugh, the gift of your friendship, the sounds of your guitar or the silence of your smile. The years have gone by so quickly since we first met. Any time we hear Mustang Sally it will bring a smile to our face, as we remember you doing your rendition on the stage in Sarnia, and the applause you got from the full house. You did not want us to feel your pain, so you did not tell us so that we could comfort you. As we travel down some of your favorite roads we will remember you with your mustache and beard blowing in the wind. You will be missed Gus but not forgotten.
