Gerald William Skyba (Gerry) died suddenly of a heart attack on Sunday September 5, 2010 at 58 years of age. Left behind to remember Gerry is his wife Wendy (nee Israelson) and daughter Nancy (Jim Mandeville). He was predeceased by his father Bill. Lovingly remembered by his Mother Teresa “Terry” and siblings Mimie (Norma), Debbie (Ron and sons Christopher & Tim (Kirsten and daughter Avery)), Michael (Janice and sons Spencer and Logan) and Terry (Sylvie and sons Eric, Alexandre & Michael), niece Shelly (Jeremy and sons Cameron and Mathew) and Godchildren Alana, Nathan and Katie Dugdale will miss him very much. Gerry lived for his wife Wendy and daughter Nancy. He loved Nancy more that life itself. He was always there to muck stalls and put up hay so Nancy could follow her passion for equestrian sports. He loved animals and welcomed whatever bird or beast Nancy & Wendy brought home. Gerry leaves behind many friends. Liam Mandeville, age 6, was his special friend and playmate and the light of his life. Griffon French, age 5, helped Gerry with yard chores and always gave Gerry a smile. Gerry was proud to be a Sudbury Spartan and especially proud to have played on the 1971 and 1977 championship winning football teams. He played hockey all his life and loved to put on his skates and play on the back yard rink with Liam and the neighbourhood kids. He enjoyed boating on Lake Scugog and he took up curling last season and loved it. He had a wonderful time making maple syrup to give as gifts. He was so happy that his Mother joined him to help in sugar season. Gerry found children delightful and liked everyone he met. He never passed up an opportunity to cook a meal and loved to entertain. Gerry was known for his quick wit & exceptional sense of humour. It was always fun when Gerry was around. Wendy called him “Mr. Congeniality” and Nancy called him “Social Butterfly”. He will be missed.
